Re: Schedule of Fees and Information on Debt Recovery in the Northern Territory In the Northern Territory, Mercantile Agents hold four licences ,Private Bailiff, Process Server, Commercial Agent and Inquiry Agent. As there are no scheduled fees for solicitor in the small claims court, Mercantile Agents prepare all legal documents, lodge and pay for them at the court and when issued they are returned to us for service. Approximately two years ago the NT Police refused to serve in remote areas. After meeting with the Commissioner it was agreed that Mercantile Agents would serve down the Stuart Highway from Darwin to Alice Springs but anything outside a 100 kilometre radius of the Stuart Highway where a Mercantile Agent is not a resident they will do, however they will only serve documents and will not execute Warrants or Repossess. Our office conducts repossessions in remote areas but they are costly because of the distance involved. There are added charges for air fares, accommodation, barge, tow truck, storage etc and our price is available on application. If documents need to be served in remote areas the documents along with a cheque for $124.30 (GST incl) can be forwarded straight to the local Police Station in that area along with a covering letter, or alternativly they can send to us and we will arrange service for a nominal handling fee. Please note that our service fee of $124.30 is per defendant and must be served personally as per Local Court Rules. They also state that this fee is for two attempts only. If required we can forward to you a list of all the Police Stations in the NT. |
